Plot:

Set in a stylized version of jazz-age Sydney, the story follows a young woman’s rise to the apex of a love/power triangle in the world of boxing. Iris, McHeath and Art each fight to establish their sovereignty within a flawed moral landscape.

14 March 2007, Mandala Films is delighted to announce that shooting on the Australian feature, THE TENDER HOOK, will commence in Melbourne, Australia on Monday 19 March, 2007.

A contemporised film noir set in Sydney in the 1920’s, THE TENDER HOOK is the second feature by writer/ director JONATHAN OGILVIE (Emulsion, Despondent Divorcee, This Film is A Dog), and will star HUGO WEAVING (Little Fish, The Lord of The Rings, The Matrix), ROSE BYRNES (Marie Antoinette, Casanova, Troy) and MATT LE NEVEZ (Emulsion, Peaches).

THE TENDER HOOK creates a stylized version of Sydney in the 1920’s. The story is about Iris’ rise to the apex of a love/power triangle that includes her roguish English lover, McHeath and Art, an earnest young boxer. Within the flawed moral landscape, each character struggles to establish their sovereignty.

Producers are Michelle Harrison and John Brousek (Hating Alison Ashley, Sensitive New Age Killer, The Wog Boy).

“We have an absolutely brilliant cast and crew of exceptional Australian talent greatly sought after across the world; that they have chosen to work on THE TENDER HOOK is a testament to the wonderful script and Jonathan’s talents as a director.” Michelle Harrison says.

The Cast of THE TENDER HOOK also includes PIA MIRANDA, LUKE CARROLL, JOHN BATCHELOR and TYLER COPPIN.

Key Crew on board for the shoot include Director of Photography, GEOFFREY SIMPSON (Romulus, My Father, Under The Tuscan Sun); Editor, KEN SALLOWS (Getting Square, Crackerjack); Production Designer, PETE BAXTER (Lucky Miles, Beneath Clouds); Costume Designer, CAPPI IRELAND (Home Song Stories) and the Score is being composed by CHRIS ABRAHAMS from The Necks (The Boys).

Financed by the Film Finance Corporation Australia, and Parkland Pictures (UK), with support from Film Victoria, THE TENDER HOOK is scheduled for release in 2008. Parkland Pictures (UK) will handle International sales, with Dendy Films distributing in Australasia.
