U4N: arc raiders blaze grenade nerf

If you have spent any time topside in Arc Raiders recently, you have probably heard the rumors: the highly popular fire meta got completely gutted in a stealth nerf. Raiders who used to rely on fire items to melt massive robotic threats are suddenly finding themselves staring down angry machines with empty pockets.

However, the reality behind the "Blaze Grenade nerf" is a bit more nuanced. The core damage stats of the standard Blaze Grenade actually haven’t been touched. Instead, developers targeted a massive game-breaking exploit involving its trap variant, while simultaneously dropping a heavy balancing hammer on the game's premier fire-based throwable—the Trailblazer Grenade—in the Update 1.15.0 Cold Snap patch.

The Blaze Grenade Trap Bug Fix
For a while, the absolute easiest way to farm high-tier materials was to skip conventional firearms entirely. Players quickly figured out that if you manage to buy arc raiders blueprints or scavenge enough materials to craft the Blaze Grenade Trap, you could effectively bypass the hardest content in the game. Platforms like U4N and community forums became flooded with strategies revolving around this single utility item.

The Exploit: A coding bug caused the Blaze Grenade Trap to deal glitched, multi-tick fire damage when attached to massive ARC targets. Instead of acting as a minor deterrent or a steady damage-over-time tool, the trap was ticking instantly and infinitely.

The Damage: This allowed a single, blue-quality Blaze Grenade Trap to completely melt through the roughly 33,000 health of the Queen boss in a matter of seconds. It also instantly eviscerated full enemy player squads in PvPvE encounters.

The Fix: Embark Studios stepped in to patch out this unintended instant-kill mechanic. The updated code forces the trap to cap strictly at its intended damage-per-second (DPS) value, preventing it from clipping multi-tick damage across oversized hitboxes.

The Trailblazer Grenade Balance Shift
While the Blaze Trap was fixed because it was broken, the actual structural nerf hit the Trailblazer Grenade in Update 1.15.0. Before this patch, the Trailblazer was widely considered overtuned. You could comfortably run around dropping a couple of gas clouds, light them up, and watch giant robots drop.

The update heavily rebalanced how fire interact with different target sizes, introducing some harsh numbers that community testers have since confirmed:

Target Type Pre-Patch Performance Post-Patch Performance (Update 1.15.0)
Medium ARCs (e.g., Bastions) Required 2 to 3 grenades to kill. Requires 5 to 10 grenades / heavy firearm follow-up.
Agile Threats (e.g., Leapers) Easily staggered and burned down. Shrug off fire damage; requires up to 6 direct hits.
Crowded Minors (Small Units) Moderate crowd control. Adjusted to hit harder; highly effective for clearing swarms.
Additionally, developers removed the ability for fire damage to penetrate solid geometry, meaning you can no longer cheese mechanical targets through walls.

Important Note on DPS Stacking: Community testing has explicitly confirmed that fire damage over time does not stack from multiple simultaneous grenades. If you throw three Trailblazers at the exact same spot at the exact same time, you are wasting resources. To maximize your damage output against large ARC targets like Bombardiers, you have to throw them sequentially, letting the burn duration of the first finish before applying the next.

Ultimately, the fire meta isn't completely dead, but the days of brainless, low-cost boss melting are over. If you're heading out on a raid, you will need to start aiming for those yellow weak spots with a proper primary weapon rather than relying entirely on your throwables pocket.
